The Sault Ste. Marie YMCA is looking for individuals with extensive experience in the fields of finance, legal, or philanthropy to contribute as valued members of our volunteer Board of Directors.

WHO WE ARE

The Sault Ste. Marie YMCA is a registered charitable organization that has been serving our community for over 120 years. With core services in Health, Fitness and Recreation and Child Care / Development.

The Sault Ste. Marie YMCA is currently seeking dynamic and visionary individuals to serve as Directors on the YMCA Board. Your personal commitment to community development and your ability to offer meaningful contributions to the Board are both key factors in your selection as a prospective Board member.

YMCA Board members serve as policy volunteers and serve on the Board on behalf of our community and the YMCA members. The YMCA offers a broad range of fulfilling volunteer experiences. Volunteer work involves training, and hands-on experience that engages your interests and skill sets. Volunteers on our Board also hold a fiduciary responsibility to our YMCA, ensuring its relevance and health in our community today, and into the future.

BOARD MEMBER COMMITMENT

– Attendance at all board meetings wherever possible (Board members cannot miss more than 3 Board meetings in a year). and serve on at least one board committee (a minimum additional 25 hour commitment annually)
– Actively participate in aspects of YMCA philanthropy in the local community.
– The YMCA reimburses Board members for travel to meetings across our region.

Our YMCA Board members take ownership for their development, job design, discipline, attendance, performance, agendas, and governance methods. The Board executes its tasks by emphasizing and promoting the organization’s values, by developing the mission and vision of the YMCA, and by providing stewardship of the organization’s resources.
